NomenScio, derived from Latin for "I know the name", reflects the mission: to create a simple way for BC Law community members to share their names, exactly as they'd like to be known. At BC Law we believe every name matters. Our Namecard feature allows you to share your preferred name, pronouns, phonetic spelling, and even a recording of how to pronounce your name correctly.
By using NomenScio, you can help break down barriers and create a more inclusive community. Properly pronouncing someone's name is a fundamental sign of respect, and we're here to make it easy. As a companion to our Canvas seatGen integration, NomenScio allows you to share your Namecard in your email signature, social media profiles, or even as part of your job search.
NomenScio was born out of a grassroots effort led by a passionate group of student advocates, who recognized the importance of inclusive name practices. Inspired by a powerful article written by BC Law student Rosa Kim, "Learn Our Names", our community came together to create a solution. We're proud to continue this student-led initiative, empowering our community to build a culture of respect and inclusivity, one name at a time.
